FICA and Medicare were never deemed to be a welfare situation but rather pension and health plans one paid for himself for himself. You idea would be to basically make them welfare plans with the richest paying for the rest. Personally, I dont care that much one way or the other but I think many Americans would feel its not right for one person to pay for another persons retirement. Plus, at least this way EVERYONE pays SOMETHING into the treasury. jdn
