there WAS a way to take our opulence and vitality from the USA and gradually integrate it into the global community with understanding and intelligence, while using the new technology and networking advantages of the late 20th century to uplift the less fortunate (by birth) on the planet and gradually curb our own appetites for excess.
we coulda been planetary leaders into the most intelligent and wise century in history... a country with vision that saw the importance of all life on earth. we could have used that platform to protect natural resources, curb overpopulation, increase productivity, share technology worldwide, eliminate hunger and treat diseases, empower individuals with inalienable rights, freedoms, and a legal system to adjudicate laws and curb injustices... but...
we didn't take that path. (understatement)
bummer. :-(
we've (USA) gone WAY past any point of return to that opportunity since then.
the USA will be recorded in history as an excellent example of greed and selfishness that ran head first into its own fear and distrust of human nature, and even, "itself"... undermining its own potential for greatness as a world leader toward the healthy growth of civilization on earth.
that human and planetary growth is still possible, (actually it's inevitable) but it won't be lead by the United States of America.
it'll appear on the internet, unencumbered by national borders... (but, be vewy, vewy cawrefuwl, it may have a trojan horse attached) <g>
