When on a sabbatical in 1976 in California I lived in an RV right below Santa Barbara.. I started a new regimen in my life that has persisted. At that time Ca. was in the midst of a health craze. Health Food stores were springing up all over. I almost considered opening one when I returned to New York and had the backing of someone . Prior to my sabbatical leave I had promised to come back and teach a few more years and I kept that commitment. However, later when I looked back at the momentum of the health movement I would have done VERY Well had I started a store. Birkenstocks were coming into their own then. They were being sold in the rear of the HF stores. I went to their place of import across from S.F. and had a franchise all set up for myself. Funny thing when I arrived in CA. I hated that shoe . When I left I owned three pairs. I still have them..
