Having a relatively small or large percentage of our wealth taxed away and given to foreign governments isn't a good measure of how charitable or how Christian a country is. Not only is this specific measure poor, but also the larger one of tax levels and government run welfare programs is poor. I don't think you can find one statement from Jesus or anywhere in the Bible that calls for high taxes or large welfare states.

Charity is voluntary giving. Having money taken from you is not being charitable. If you look at private charitable giving I imagine the US is well up there on the lists. Certainly number 1 in gross amounts. Quite possibly number 1 per capita or at least in the top few, and probably above average in terms of % of national income.
