re: My point was that overall energy efficiency has improved, and real dollars produced per unit of energy or per barrel of oil have improved.

If your point is that average MPG of passenger vehicles is not improving than you are correct about that specific fact.

Are you crazy? Dollars produced? If we had taken "MPG efficiency" to heart during the last "energy crisis" there would be no energy crisis now. 9/11 probably wouldn't have happened. The Iraq war wouldn't have happened. Our trade deficit would have been reduced by 1/3, at least. A lot more discretionary spending or (God forbid) savings would have been fed, every year, into the economy.

We're betting our economic and political future on being able to import >60% of our oil from bad actors. And we're doing it by F'ing around in the ME, at the cost of lives, dollars and our place in world politics. We're funding the good folks in Iran.

The "technology" to reduce our oil imports by >40%+ has been around for 30 years. It's stupidly simple.

If people like you don't understand what "efficiency" means, then frankly all is lost. But maybe you were just being facetious.
