ROTFLMAO, by the time fresh water supply would become a problem, there would be no affordable power left in the 110V/220V outlet. (which are 135V/245V delivered tensions if I am correct).
Without looking at scenarios a la Soylent Green, INHO, the current alternative would be bottled water companies.
If only those conglomerates just were selling plain water and securing their supplies, I could have a look at.
Those I know are just pumping sources, not exploring for alternatives.
