Natural gas businesses may be sold to try to boost stock valuation

"Fresh off its merger with Cinergy Corp., Duke Energy Corp. is looking at further moves to boost the company's shares, executives said Monday.

The main decision confronting the new company is whether to sell Duke's natural-gas distribution and processing businesses, the executives said. The company should make a decision by the end of the year, they noted.

Motivating a potential sale is a belief that Wall Street is undervaluing the business because of its connection with Duke's massive electric-utility business.

"It's all about challenging analysts to do the right analysis," said Paul Anderson, the former chief executive Duke who is now chairman of the combined company..."
