Phil Helmuth's egotism never ceases to amaze me. I just viewed my tape of the Heads Up World Championship first round. The defending champion, Helmuth, drew a really tough first round opponent, Chip Reese. Reese is not a famous tournament player, but a legend in cash games. As Doyle Brunson said, "If I had to pick one player to play for my family's livelihood, it would be Chip."
So, they played and Chip beat Phil, who really, really hates to be beaten. Afterwards, they shook hands.
"You played really well, Phil," Reese said.
"Of course I did. I'm the world's best head's up player." Phil modestly "aw shucked" in response.
Fortunately, his wife is a psychiatrist. <G> |
