The metals value of US nickels is currently just below face value.

Nickels weigh 5.0 grams each (so 453.6/5.0 = 90.72 per pound) and are 75% copper and 25% nickel.

From the 4/21/06 Kitco close on the two metals:

Cu $3.0972/lb
Ni $8.6970/lb

The face value for 1 lb of nickels = $4.536
Metals value for 1 lb of nickels = $4.497
