Canadians (and most of the rest of the industrialized world) already pay $4.00+ per U.S. gallon ($1.05 per liter here). The main change is people purchase smaller, more fuel efficient gas cars,...particularly Japanese ones. You can effectively double your mileage trading in the SUV for a Camry or Accord bring the price per mile down to that enjoyed when oil was $20 per barrel. If you raise your gas price to $8 per gallon and fillups start costing $200+ then things may start hopping.
