TJ, NEM is just some gold-digger. I wouldn't dream of buying NEM. NEM is like a Moai maker, but without the skill. I don't want to buy a quarry. That's positively neanderthal. My comparison is gold vs QCOM.

While gold is not an investment in the sense of "earn some profits on doing something useful by selling something with added value", there is added value in being a gold stockist, providing stocks when prices are high and buying them when cheap. Warehousing of products is a valuable service. Outright speculation is a valuable service too as somebody has to decide what is too expensive and what is too cheap and users of gold aren't necessarily wanting to work out what's the right price as they are too busy developing gold soldering techniques or something to worry about gold price volatility and how much to stock.

We didn't settle. You settled. My no comment was mistakenly taken for agreement.
