I just spent some time looking at IVAN and there is an interesting chain of events:

Jan 4 - IVAN raises $18 million from offshore share placement at $1.63 per share and full warrants at $2.50.

Jan 17 - IVAN begins a rocket ride from $1.50 to $3.40. There is no news on Yahoo at this time. I had to go to the company website to learn that this is when the first, successful HTL test was announced. It is surprising the say the least that this news wasn't released to the big wires and never showed up on Yahoo.
ivanhoe-energy.com.

Jan 25 - One of IVAN's California wells has disapointing test results and the stock drops from about $2.70 to $2.25. Minor compared to the move on the 17th and with much less volume. This news does show up at Yahoo because it went to both AP and PRNewswire.

Feb 21 - CITIC exchanges remaining 40% of an oil project to IVAN for about $27 million mostly in IVAN stock and a non interest bearing loan.

March 6 - IVAN announces second larger HTL test. The PR is on PRNewswire, but apparently not AP. The stock moves up on moderate volume then sells off in the following days.

April 6 - IVAN raises another 25 million in another unregistered, offshore share placement at $2.23 and full share purchase warrants at 2.63. Friedland takes down $5 million.

April 11 - IVAN releases mildly positive test results on their Kern County, CA well. It doesn't sound like a barn burner. Salinas Energy moves, but nothing unusual for IVAN shares. The PR says further results in a minimum of a week.

Large investors have bought $63 million worth of IVAN stock this year, and received share purchase warrants to invest another $57 million in the company this year. These financings were done at low prices following an ugly tax loss season. The company has been releasing lots of information about its lackluster California drilling results, while being almost tight lipped about the HTL process, which is clearly what is moving the stock. It looks to me like big money is getting into this stock at good prices. The March 6 HTL PR announced further testing to include the recycling operations that would take 4-6 weeks. It looks like this HTL process is going to be a breakthrough for the Canadian oils sands and many other places around the world. I think the insiders are in and now Friedland can start promoting this story to the public.
