Re: Yay, drawing CPU conclusions from graphics benchmarks using different graphics cards and an Intel chip you can't get.

Yup, par for the course.

I didn't draw any conclusions or state any opinions in my post. I was just reporting the news. It will probably be a hot topic of discussion elsewhere. If it makes you feel any better it beat out all of the other P4/P4EE scores as well.

It's hard to tell how close this would be to typical gaming performance. It would be interesting to see the difference without SLI/Crossfire. Many of today's games are bottlenecked by video card performance. Most hardware review sites only use a single video card for their reviews, which should make Conroe and Athlon 64 performance look somewhat closer in those reviews than the Crossfire/SLI benchmarks have indicated so far.

If you want to compare similar video cards then look at the XtremeSystems Aquamark 3 Hall of Fame. Conroe beat out the fastest FX-60/X1900 Crossfire system despite the fact the FX-60 system had a higher overclock on the video cards. Here is a comparison between the best AMD Crossfire system score and the Conroe score:

FX-60
score: 147582
CPU freq: 3689MHz
video card: X1900 series (Crossfire)
video card GPU freq: 880MHz
video card mem freq: 838MHz

Conroe
score: 153219
CPU freq: 2720MHz
video card: X1900 series (Crossfire)
video card GPU freq: 712MHz
video card mem freq: 738MHz

XtremeSystems Aquamark 3 high scores:
