The private sector will bring plug-in hybrids to market if there really is a demand for them.

I've always had a problem with this "chicken and egg"
argument viz a viz the auto industry ... I don't ever
remember demanding Detroit build gas guzzling SUVs for me
to buy .. Did you do it ????? INMHO Detroit builds what
it can make the most profit on while simultaneously circumventing the most govenment regulations that it can ..
IE classifying SUVs as 'trucks' and thereby circumventing
the CAFE standards then in place for "cars" .... The FEDS
have to get some balls and institute real CAFE standards ..
In fact, I think Detroit should be fined for every vehicle they produce that gets less than 30mpg in local service ..
Or we can just continue on with the status quo and eventually
Detroit will go the way of the buggy whip companies ..
