While we are on the off topic, me pater familias is in the Guiness book as having with a partner paddled the most miles in one day in a Canoe (120 miles in 12 hours). That is phenomenal as most people could not paddle any sort of canoe one mile at ten miles per hour. There is a physical secret to it as well as the need to be in good shape. Three secrets in fact, one of kinesiology or leverage/style (same as in boxing, swimming and fencing as revealed by Edward Land in 1920 and practiced by J. Corbett) and the others are hydrodynamics and applied power point of the propellant device (the paddle) and the shape of and wetted surface area/wave function of the hull. He is also in the G-Book for two Olympic medals earned in 1936 pairs 1000 and 10,000 metres. As well, holds the record for the half mile pairs in the 17 foot CDN peanut shell.
