Early during this summer there was an epidemic of menigococal disease in West Africa (Ghana area) with 200,000 affected and 35,000 deaths. Most of the survivals were meningitis cases, most of the death were meningococcemia. This is from a small report in Pediatrics Infectious Diseases News, they have a web site but I do not know where, I had the printed version.
