In their Sept. 29th, 1997 issue, (page 35) Business Week did a piece on DVD and Divx. As you may know, Divx (digital video express)is a partnership with electronics retailer Circuit City and a Hollywood law firm. The Divx players (variant of DVD) will be manufactured by Matsushita, Zenith and Thomson Multimedia(RCA). Disney, Paramount, Universal and Dreamworks have commited to producing Divx titles.

This whole thing smells like an AMAZING opportunity for Wave Systems!!! The next paragraph is an exerpt from the article.

"Customers will register with Divx and then purchase movie disks at Circuit City or other licensed retailers for $5. (compared with $25 or more for new movies on regular DVDS) Upon inserting a disk in the player, they'll have 48 hours to watch the flick, after which they can throw it away, recycle it, or just store it on the shelf for future use. On all subsequent viewings, the hardware will keep a log and communicate automatically with Divx's computers to arrange for billing. "

The opportunities for Wave's technology are so much more than PC's. I hope the Spragues are camped in front of Matsushita, Zenith and Thomsen Multimedia working out a deal to put Wavemeters in these players!!!
