Bush may be a bit of an unfair outlet for my pessimism. He really isn't directly responsible for what I am really seeing as a big problem developing for this country. My blatant pessimism stems largely from what I have been seeing happen to the housing industry in the past few months. It hasn't affected the population much so far but it's going to. The situation is deteriorating rapidly and is on track to become very bad. This could be the worst down cycle in the history of the country and people who have more home than they can afford are in big trouble. If you have friends that rely on real estate, or carry high levels of debt, you might want to suggest they start saving something for a rainy day. They are going to start hearing about falling housing prices this summer. Contrary to what people want to believe, housing prices can and do fall.

EDIT: Weekly mortgage information just came out. Applications fell again, across the board, when we are coming into the busiest time of the year. We are now BELOW off season levels at the start of the peak buying season. Maybe everyone is buying with cash! ;)
