I am not a big fan of Gateway either, but I had a much better experience with their customer support. I purchased a Gateway notebook a couple of years ago only because it had features HP didn't provide until 6 months later. Anyway, the screen developed a crack at the hinge. Ended up being a well known problem for Gateway. I called customer support, they sent a box with a prepaid shipping label and I sent it off. It came back fixed a week later. No problem since.

I guess the point is you will find good and bad support issues for every computer company. The company that ships the most pcs will probably have the most complaints.
