re: They sent you a box with a prepaid shipping label? Yes. I was surprised. This cracked hinge thing was a very well known problem and was mentioned on many website forums. Maybe because it was so public and the fact that I was not anywhere near the first person to have the problem, they handled it well. I don't know about HP's support because I have never had any problems with any of my Compaq or HP products. BTW, I was at Best Buy over the weekend and noticed the new HP TVs. I asked one of the salesmen about them and he said that the first two they got were DOA. He did not know what was wrong with them, but he just contributed it to being start up issues with a new product. The ones they had on display looked good, but I don't know what differentiates them from all the other brands.
