CHICAGO, April 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, has been selected to provide map data for Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.'s new portable navigation device, the AVIC-S1. The new AVIC-S1 will be preloaded with NAVTEQ® map data, including a comprehensive database of the U.S. and Canada and 1.5 million of the most popular points of interest including, restaurants, gas stations, and ATMs making it easier to locate and route to many different destinations.
NAVTEQ data delivers the highest levels of quality and precision. From turn restrictions to relative road crossing heights, every road segment captured in the NAVTEQ database has up to 160 attributes, such as access restrictions, one-way streets and speed categories. Additionally, NAVTEQ maps include Points of Interest including restaurants, hospitals, shopping centers and leisure facilities, making it easier to locate and route to many different destinations.
The AVIC-S1, a compact and lightweight portable navigation device, combines the essentials of an installed navigation system with the convenience of a true portable device that can be transported easily from car-to-car. Future map updates are readily accessible through a smart digital (SD) card slot located on the side of the unit.
The AVIC-S1 is compact without sacrificing performance, employing such features as a TFT touch panel, 2D and 3D view mode, a screen arrow with voice instructions, and a jog dial that simplifies searches for names, addresses, and points of interest. If a driver strays off route, the AVIC-S1 will automatically recalculate a new route to the final destination.
The AVIC-S1 will be available in June 2006 at a retail price of $599 and will come complete with a mounting kit, cigarette lighter adapter, carrying case, home charger and PC mini-USB cable.
