It seems to me, that everyone is lulled by the Intel price
war topic. Why so naiv - sorry!? It isn't that easy also when
most people do talk about this so easy, but they are mostly
wrong.
At first, it was only talk by the analysts, but now, it is the actual prices. There is no question that most of the gains AMD has made over time were on the quality of the products, but a big chunk of AMD market is by being cheaper than Intel, which is something that Intel is attacking. Intel is unable to attack with quality, to they are attacking with price. A portion of the market is price sensitive.

May be I misunderstood what you meant by mix. There is a mix of CPUs and computers. AMD will continue to benefit from the improving mix of computers with AMD chips, from server, notebook, higher end of desktop market. But, beyond short term positive effect, I don't see a long term improvement from CPU mix going SC to DC. You can harvest the premium, as AMD did in the server market, by being ahead. But I don't think ASPs of the processors will go up, over time, just on the basis of increasing number of cores.
I think the mainstream CPUs will continue to be in 75 to 175mm^2 range, prices will be what they are, but number of cores will go up.
