Eric,

I have a 6600, vanilla no GT, and a AXP Barton. There is always a good enough reason to postpone the purchase, but at this point, I am getting a little desparate. One component upgrade at the time, keeping software installation had kept me with the same basic system for some 3 to 4 years now, but it is showing its age.

Now I have to do a complete upgrade because of AGP -> PCI-Express, and also I want to give the old PC to my kids.

I think I will clone the HD to keep all of the existing software installations and do XP x64 as a separate boot partition / hard drive to be my new main environment. I think I will go for 7900. The less expensive version of it is I think only $300 and an AM2 X2 processor. Either 4000 or 4400.

But even with that, I think I will be way below playable frame rate at the native resolution of my monitor.

Joe
