Buggi,

Again, of course - I assume the same, but does this has to
mean, that AMDs ASPs couldn't increase?
I asked this question from time to time and noone could
answer this yet - why should Intel command a 25-30% higher
overall ASP with no better or even equal products in the
LONG-TERM! ???

I exchanged some posts on the subject with DARBES and niceguy. Intel monopoly premium may be shrinking, the difference is narrowing. Niceguy suggested that maybe the 2 companies will meet in the middle. Or it may just be that Intel may descend down to AMD levels.

I think the opportunity is greater in growing units. AMD has not been overly aggressive in growing units on the low end for last 3 quarters, because of capacity constraints. When capacity ceases to be an issue, AMD can be a lot more aggressive on low end, while at the same time, trying to penetrate corporate market, notebooks and servers. So the result could be unchanged ASPs, but units growing significantly.

Joe

PS: Now, with a pile of cash burning a hole in my pocket, I am thinking about a (very) long shot in the Opteron ecosystem - CRAY. Any opinions? Delisting threat seems to have been cured.
