re: That's largely because of cheap-CPU pseudo-servers (1-socket Prescott "servers") where Intel is strong, and expensive-CPU 4-socket systems, where AMD is strong, no doubt. commenting on Joe Osha saying this:

<<AMD now holds 22% of the server market in terms of units, 27% of the market in terms of revenue and should have a technology edge on Intel in the server market through 2007, Osha says.>>

Not sure about that. The 22.1% number was also quoted by AMD in a press release yesterday for Opteron's 3rd birthday. They attribute it to a Mercury Research report. So is the 22% number counting "servers" or server CPUs? The rest of the Forbes article seems to be talking about CPU market share, not PC or server market share.

The 27% number might be "server CPU revenue share" or it might be "server revenue share." I would think there are enough overpiced Intel systems to skew the server revenue numbers in the opposite direction. But AMD servers or mostly dual core now, unlike Intel which has those low-end "tower" systems.

There are usually half a dozen analysts repeating the data in the Mercury Research report, but not this time around. Apparently no one is willing to highlight the fact that Otellini was lying when he said that Intel did not lose overall CPU market share.
