I'm typing this from memory, as I haven't found a lyrics source for it. It's the theme song for a movie made in Western Montana when I was a youngster. Timberjack imdb.com
When the movie had its world premiere in Missoula, my grandmother went to the Chamber of Commerce dinner where the cast and other stars were introduced. She walked up to Rex Allen and got his autograph on the program for me. I still have it. Rex Allen was not in the cast, but he came to support his movie sidekick, Chill Wills, who was in the cast.
I've been to many of the sites depicted in the movie, and have climbed on the steam locomotive that they restored for it. It is now on display in Missoula, but when I first saw it it was hidden in the woods a couple of years before the movie was made.

When you're out and choppin' down that poplar and pine Hurry back, hurry back, Timberjack! 'Cause there's a dark haired girl whose lips are sweeter than wine, Hurry back, hurry back, Timberjack!
She's got a house, she's got a ring, she's got an acre. And it would break her heart if you forsake her.
So drop your cross cut saw and leave your ax in the rack.
Hurry back, hurry back, Timberjack! Timberjack! Timberjack! |
