Oh... they learned that it's better to permit aggressive threats against another member of the United Nations than to actually act to deter or punish such threatening behavior?

That's a pretty interesting lesson they've learned...

They learned that the sanctions were working and Iraq wasn't a threat to anyone in the region. They also learned that not to use words that the US would misuse to rationalize a Coalition of the Willing claiming they had UN authority.

Maybe they also might be learning that they will be increasingly seen as irrelevant if they fail to take actions against such agression...

I fully support the proposition that the US withdraw from the UN. If you're interested, the US could set up a United Democratic Nations institution or you could auction off the property [UN building in NY]to the highest bidder. Maybe Trump could do something with it.

We do know that they were clients of Mr. Khan, the Pakistani nuclear proliferator...

But Pakistan is our good buddy and Mr. Khan has been given a full pardon and is a national hero.

Maybe Mr. Drumheller, the CIA analyst who commented on 60 minutes the other night, would care to comment on why he failed to mention that Sabri stated that Saddam had 500 Metric tonnes of chemical weapons hidden away...

I missed the 60 minutes show. On CNN he avoided confirming the name of agent, so I can't tell whether Sabri and who Drumheller was referring to as an agent were the same person. But on CNN he indicated that the agent informed them that Saddam's WMD inventory was largely destroyed. Whatever "largely" means.

But I have to repeat my position on HUMINT. It's all gossip, you can't believe any of it.

From the BBC web site: As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map.

I agree that it's a stronger statement than will. Then again, that's in English. I don't think he delivered the speech in English. And he does avoid saying Iran is going to be the one that does it. At some level you should be able to acknowledge he's speaking to the crowd and telling them what they want to hear. It's belligerent talk for sure, but it's no different than Bush saying we're controlling the borders. Or losing is not an option.

IMO, you can thank Bush for enabling the whole move of Iran towards to the right. Iran was moderating and Bush started his axis of evil stuff and hasn't let up. Iran has correspondingly moved towards a more belligerent position and Ahmadinejad can take advantage of the situation by fostering Iranians to a nationalistic posture.

ONLY if they are fully disclosing and grant open access to all of their nuclear related facilities to the IAEA for inspection.

As it currently stands, they are in violation of the NPT because they refuse to fully disclose their activities and permit them to be monitored.

And they're not cooperating at the moment because they aren't allowed to have an enrichment program for the full nuclear cycle.

I have not seen any statement on the part of the US or the UN that says if you [Iran] comply you can have the full cycle. Russia came up with a proposal to do it on Russian soil and not surprisingly Iran rejected it.

What are you going to do if Iran pulls out of the NPT?
