Re: "Modern western civilizations have always been held apart from third world nations and past monarchist or despotic societies because of the special standing that female children have had."
Is that why adult women had no right to vote, and no property rights in divorce, etc.? (No, right... your article *did* refer to 'modern' Western civilization, so I guess the author must be referring to the post WW I period --- voting rights --- and, maybe, post WW II for full property rights under the laws of our 50 States. Yeah, that must be what he is referring to....)
So... if we --- our 'Western civilization' are so all-fired civilized and such... then *why* are we still trying to tell women what they can do, or not do, with their bodies?
(Seems awfully paternalistic, Autocratic, and un-civilized to me! No, wait... the author DID actually refer to 'Western civilizations' and, I guess that there ARE actually Western civilizations that fully respect women's rights [or, at least, *more so* then might be common in THIS little part of the 'Western world'.])
Perhaps Mr. Huston might want to get out a while, and go *looking* for 'Western civilization'? He just might be able to find it.... |
