I'll agree with you that some of the programs were not well designed or managed well. When you have massive discrimination and racism it makes it very hard for that portion of society to live normally. Coming from slavery, to segregation, to discrimination has been unbelievably hard on blacks in America. There needed to be a transition from that place in society to a place were all are TRULY equal. I believe that things have improved over the last 50 years, and that those programs were needed as a bridge.

The war on poverty was a step in the right direction IMHO. A program with the best intentions for humanity. The intent was to level the playing field, and surely you'd agree that we started out with a huge hole on one side.

On the flip side of the coin...spending billions on bombs and warfare... where the intent and the design is to kill...how does that compare with the compassion of offering opportunity where none existed before?
