<GLD follows the spot price of gold. Gold fell and GLD shares went down. Period! End of story.>

That is so nuts and bolts fundamentally simple that it never occurred to me that someone might not understand it. Life is too short to explain everything, but here goes, GLD tracks gold and SLV tracks silver. The ETF's might as well be considered one and the same with the metals price wise other than a slight decay in the ETF prices from fund expenses.

When gold gaps down like it did after GLD started trading it is usually the large commercial shorts running the stops on the small spec. longs in the futures market. I've been following the gold market since 1997 and not everything is on the up and up. The silver market is that much worse. There are those among the large commercials who would rather the investing public doesn't get interested in gold and silver and run the price up, since they have to buy the stuff. One way to discourage some folks is to give the ETF's a black eye not too long after they start trading. The SEC is coincidentally cooperative in this by giving both GLD and SLV the go ahead while their respective markets were notably frothy.

I am a little guy indeed, but at least I am 10 times the little guy I was in 2001. Anyone without a nine digit net worth these days is a little guy. I think we all have a long ways to go to shake that tag. <ng>
