... 'Affection'... for a murderous Dictator....
You *can't* be serious!
I suggest that perhaps you are falsely lumping everyone who ever opposed going to war with Iraq with the idea that all these people feel 'affection' for Saddam.
(...Whether the opposition was to the first US Iraq War, the second US Iraq War, or maybe you are even lumping in people like ME who thought we shouldn't have helped Saddam survive when he attacked Iran in the 'eighties... that we should have left him dangling in the wind back then and he would have *never* lived to see the 'nineties... and likely Iran's fundamentalists would have also over-reached, seen the entire Sunni world unite against them, thus curtailing that present day problem as well; or that -- in Dessert Storm --- we should have *never* stopped short of ousting the Dictator!)
I believe that if there were this great outpouring of 'affection' (aside from the Fascists in Iraq, who knew which side their bread was buttered on) for ONE Dictator, like you seem to be suggesting... likely we would see it all over for a bunch of Dictators --- for Saddam was really nothing special in the ranks of Dictators!
You know, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, Saddam, etc., fans clubs, fanzines and Web sites, etc.
I just DON'T SEE it!
Or, as I suggested in an earlier post, perhaps all this supposed 'affection' for Dictator(s) exists ONLY while the DICTATOR'S STILL HOLD POWER?
(THAT could make sense, after all... isn't the power and money they have really the only things that could possibly attract people?)
Maybe we should start looking for these outpourings of Dictator affection among the ranks of some Dictators who still MATTER?

So, if you find some wellspring of AFFECTION for ole murderous Saddam... PLS call it to my attention --- I would find it fascinating. (Kinda like Hitler or Stalin or Pol Pot clubs!) |
