VTEL seems to be surrounding itself with good company....

VAR Business; August 15, 1997, Issue: 1314 Section: VARBusiness 500 -- The Billion Dollar Club

From the article "...Despite its size, Anixter has decided to focus on core strengths rather than compete with more horizontal service companies such as IBM Global Services and EDS Corp. The Chicago-based company bills itself as a "value-added provider of integrated networking and cabling solutions that support business information and network infrastructures." That has meant establishing close ties to key suppliers including Bay Networks Inc., Digital Equipment Corp., Fore Systems, IBM Corp., Intel Corp., Lucent Technologies Inc., 3Com Corp., U.S. Robotics and VTEL Corp. Anixter also has pursued new relationships with up-and-coming vendors such as Ascend Communications Inc. In May, Anixter was one of the first corporate partners to become a Tier II Ascend Authorized Service Provider..."

Our new management needs to be more proactive in (1) establishing these alliances and (2) cross promoting the benefits of utilizing such a 'value added' VAR. Let's hope they understand this and we see more announcements in the future on this topic.

The bottom line is that 'solid' sales growth must begin by Q1 1998 or this investor will have to re-think the long term prospects of this company.
