Sprint Nextel Sets May 17 Spinoff Date April 28, 2006, 5:53PM chron.com 2006 The Associated Press RESTON, Va. — "Wireless carrier Sprint Nextel Corp. said Friday it expects to complete the spinoff of its local communications business Embarq Corp. on May 17. Sprint Nextel will distribute one share of Embarq common stock for every 20 shares of Sprint Nextel common stock held on the record date, May 8. The shares will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the "EQ" symbol. Embarq will be the fifth-largest local phone company in the country with 7.4 million access lines in 18 states, as of Sept. 30. The company, which is expected to have 20,000 employees and had 2004 revenues of $6.02 billion, will remain based in suburban Kansas City on a part of Sprint's corporate campus...."
