The folks who yell MAD now were the same folks who were opposed to the doctrine as used in the cold war. Everyone should take a course in the Cuban Missile Crisis when there was MAD but no red phone and the world came within an inch of being destroyed. After that sober leaders emerged on both sides even evil ones like Breznev. OOPS there is no red phone in Tehran. Will the big ugly mullah or president Insane have the good judgement of a Krushchev in 1962 or Kennedy for that matter, given what our military was telling him. Thats why MAD is a crapshoot.
