<<Here is an article which explores whether Windows NT would make it as Real Time OS. It is an excellent reference for people who want to learn what features make an operating system Real Time:

Helpful article, Gecko.

I attended a conference where Radisys presented on Friday, and talked to their CFO, Brian Turner, over lunch.

His comments:
* Likes Wind as an RTOS and their customers specify it a lot.
* The customer always decides which RTOS will be used in a RSYS designed embedded system.
* They are seeing increasing client interest in using NT as the RTOS, even though it is "not an ideal system for it...WIND or ISI are much better"
* It is his belief that WIND has a solid position going forward. That the RTOS market is still too small to command much attention from MSFT at this point.
* RSYS is working on a scaled down NT RTOS system to improve on the performance and amount of overhead occupied, but it will still be less ideal than WIND's systems.

On the Radisys front, he was very excited aboout the recent trend in design wins in the core Radisys embedded business, and said that core business should continue to experience a 40% growth rate. The recent slow down in revenue growth is attributable to the MultiBus business acquired from Intel, which is a "no growth cash cow".

His final comments were something about forward looking statements being less than guaranteed.....but I had mostly quit listening by then...

I am a finance guy, not an engineer, as I am sure is evident.

Anyway, FWIW.

Good luck.

Brian
