Y2K Electric Power Research Institute EXCELLENT, INTERESTING SITE
epri.com
Check out "What's New"
9/19/97: Removed Y2K Contractors page due to concerns about liability.

"Energy companies have become acutely aware of the Year 2000 (Y2K) problems that affect their mainfram ining microprocessors. EPRI proposes to work with electric utilities to resolve their Year 2000 embedded systems issues."

The EPRI site indicated that they were thinking of having a discussion group, if people thought it might be helpful. Here's what I emailed:

It's VITAL that you have a SPECIFIC discussion group on your web site.

A lot of managers at power plants, are delegating work to lower level employees who aren't sure what they're doing. Industry specific discussions, regarding embedded systems in particular, are vitally important.

I'm the "unofficial" Wall Street expert on Y2K in general, and embedded systems, in particular .... and it's appalling what's going on ... or not going on.

Someone emailed me something from a discussion group, where a college intern was working at a nuclear power plant and was given the assignment to do an inventory on embedded systems within the facility. The kid didn't fully understand what the "Year 2000" problem was, and was asking discussion participants for help and suggestions.

This HAS to stop.

The problem's not just in your sector, I've seen the same stuff happening for manufacturing, banking and stock market sectors. Managers delegate "down" on this critical issue. It's driving me crazy.
