Bush and his oil cronies have basically engineered this oil crisis for their benefit. It is no mistake that oil companies are reporting record profits now. It is exactly why Bush and the Republicans have fought the CAFE fuel efficiency standards and why Bush took us to war in Iraq. Everyone thought it was an oil grab, and it has been, but it has also helped dry up the supply of oil and increased prices and profits significantly. Another thing we can thank Bush and his corporate cronies for is the "conspiracy of silence" regarding the electric car technology. They have dragged their feet and literally stoppped all electric car research and development. The electric car is the one technology that would end the oil age as we know it, and they know that, which is why we have no choice but to use petroleum or only now biofuels.
