Now, it looks like things are just going to get worse and worse for the people of this country.
Aside from make less money for ordinary jobs, how will it get worse and worse for the people of this country? Freedom of expression, choice of a partner for their life, sexual freedom, the right to own property, the ability to advance based on individual merit - are those things deteriorating? Or do you just mean the low skill job pays less than it did 20 years ago?
Things are different here. I am not sure I can give the specifics that will make it clear to you. I think you have to be here to understand. Recently, I've begun to realize that given where you are located, you are only getting some of what's happening here.
Like John, I too think this country has peaked and its all downhill from here. I no longer have any illusions about our greatness. We have been fed a lot of lies.......lies that were woven into the fabric of our patriotism. America, the home of the brave and the free; America, the horatio alger story; in America, the poorest child can be president; America, where people pull themselves up by their bootstraps; America, where the middle class shares the wealth with the upper class; America, the reluctant giant who must police the world; America, the good, chosen by God. Its all crap! While we were being fed the koolaid, America's leaders were fucking with the world. Its why Bush and company don't see anything wrong with their current behavior.......after all, Cheney and ole Rummie have been around since the 1960s or 1970s.
In one moment in time, ole Rummie is shaking the hand of Saddam Hussein; in the next moment, he is bombing him. Saddam and ole Rummie are closer to each other in character than ole Rummie and the average American. In 2003 Cheney and ole Rummie were hunting for WMDs they gave or facilitated their giving to Saddam in the 1980s. The irony would be laughable if it were happening to another country. Unfortunately, its all happening to America. And the wakeup call was 9/11......all the seeds that were planted in prior decades by our leaders in the rest of the world came back to haunt us.
And let me make clear.........I don't think it started with Bush........it started much earlier......probably with Reagan or maybe LBJ. They were leaders who thought they knew what was best for America; they knew better than the average American. They didn't bother to explain the problem to Americans and allow Americans to decide for themselves what course they wanted to take, but rather used deception to get their way. Power corrupts and America is corrupted. I thought it started with Bush but it only broke into the surface under him........after fighting to gain air all during the 1990s. Bush is the culmination of all this deceit and manipulation that has been going on for decades. The ulimate conman/snake oil salesman clothed in everyman garb carefully constructed by Karl Rove.
Go read the article about Stephen Colbert that I posted.......how his irony and honesty shocked the WA press and Bush at their press dinner recently. DC has no idea how angry Americans are and if the truth be know, they really don't care, and worse, I don't think it matters. We lost are positioning in affairs of state long ago.
