Medi-Cal provides benefits for people with low income and little to no assets. In fact, people usually have to blow
through their own assets before they're eligible. If folks
get Medi-Cal benefits as a result of accident related injuries, Medi-Cal has a serious lien on their recovery in a civil suit.

See this: seniormedi-benefits.org

Since Medi-Cal is not insurance, but a federal entitlement program for the needy, I don't have any expletives to add.
Why should heirs inherit while the public bears the cost of
their loved one's last illness? It makes sense to charge the estate since at least the person had access during his or her own life.
