The Avengers

The Avengers are gathered in a crowd
Their voices are violent and loud
They are congregated in the town square
Their numbers counted to check they are all there
A crime so foul it must be punished
The solemn undertaking must be finished
A soul shall be cast into Hell
A secret that none dare tell
There is safety in numbers
And while the town slumbers
In the middle of the night
There will be a deadly fight
Its payback time
A fitting punishment for his crime
The victim will be lashed and whipped
His skin will be stripped
His body will be red raw
His soul is rotten to the core
Each member will take his turn
As they watch the victim burn
Throwing missile and stones
At his broken bones
Their night’s work is complete
Vengeance is sweet
