"The MM's have profited from this and probably have their own tricks for maximizing this profit. But I don't think they are responsible for the downtrend. I think the analysts have the largest role, as they help to create public opinion. Important point: Cowen is an analyst and provides upgrades/downgrades and estimate revisions for Ascend. Cowen also makes a market in Ascend!" The MMs and the analysts frequently work for the same firms! When an analyst prepares to put out an upgrade or downgrade, he coordinates with the MMs. By the time the change status hits the news, the MMs have already taken their advantageous positions. I have often observed them drop the bid and ask 1 to 2 bucks on almost zero voulume. This is sometimes done on an entire sector. Once the ball gets rolling, then the additional downgrades begin to hit the wires and negative articles pop up in many selected journals. If this info. seems odd and hard to believe to anyone at this time, I invite you to store the info. and observe for yourself over the next couple of years and you will verify my points with actual observations. Understanding these manipulations is one of the fundamental keys of successful investing. TA and even the fundamentals of a corp. are secondary to this knowledge. They have the power to take poor fundamentals and run shares up and to take great fundamentals and run shares down. Without a knowledge of the dynamics of manipulations in the market, a person can master every element of TA , cyclicality and the fundamentals of a co. and will still be a failure in the market. This is elementary knowledge of engagement for veterans of investment warfare. Give yourselves time to check out these observations and time will confirm. Regards Emile
