SAN JOSE, May 4 (Reuters) - Online auctioneer eBay Inc. (EBAY) plans roughly to double the number of countries where it offers its PayPal online payment service to 105 countries over the next year, a PayPal executive said on Thursday.

Mathias Entenmann, the vice president in charge of PayPal's international business, said the company was stepping up investments in order to add 50 new markets over the next 12 months, and support 17 different currencies, up from seven now.

PayPal is eBay's fastest growing major business, growing 44 percent to $335.1 million last quarter from a year earlier and topping $1 billion in revenue for the first time in 2005. PayPal represents about one-quarter of all eBay revenue.
