If you only knew how much People in Mexico (Mexicans and Americans), where I now live see the US as the Rogue Nation and its leadership (I think Bush is the Lead actor who maybe has begun to believe his original role) as or more dangerous then perhaps Hitler was! It's often difficult to debate issues with people who are intent on judging the US to be a rogue nation for upholding international laws, let alone international order. Most of them don't know the issues involved. They don't understand that many nations have been intent on permitting rogue governments to flaunt the United Nations Security Council, and it's been left to the US to actually do something about it. Most, especially in Latin America, have qualms about the US pushing its weight around.. And while most of them might claim they despise terrorism, they really have no desire to become involved in doing something about it. But in the case of Iran.. one way of helping them to see reason is to note that Britain, France, and Germany are taking the lead in the UNSC this time around, and it's China and Russia who are trying to obstruct enforcement of Iran's obligations under the NPT. And if you want to get a bit more combative, just ask them whether not being greatly involved in combatting terrorism might be one of the reasons that the US is getting tougher on border controls. I just ask people what evidence they have for claiming that Bush is acting outside of international law. Because every decision he's made, thus far, has strong basis in international law and the UN Charter. Hawk
