Marty,

Yes, I am concerned about the other aspects of Bandai Co., Ltd. I believe you hit the nail on the head without realizing it. That being we really don't know much about this company. Reports are hard to come by and often don't agree with each other. Perhaps you can rectify the following problems I am having getting a handle on this company.

From corporate history it appears that the Bandai Groups consolated into Bandai Co., Ltd. and became listed on TSE.

bandai.co.jp

Makeup of the Bandai Group is given at:

bandai.co.jp

We know that BNDCY is the ADR of Bandai Co., Ltd. as listed on the TSE.

At least two news stories state that Bandai Co., Ltd. lost between $66 and $70 million in the year ending March 31, 1997:

nytimes.com
biz.yahoo.com

How do you account for the non-consolidated and consolidated corporate reports listed at the Bandai's web site going only through March 31, 1996? Isn't kinda misleading to show as your last entry a profit of $97 million instead a loss of $66 million? Perhaps they are waiting until they can post a profit to update their site.

bandai.co.jp

Does the non-consolidated report represent the parent and the consolidated the entire group?

<<<but I haven't read anything about any current losses anywhere>>>

If the group represents the parent plus its consolidated subsidiaries, how do you explain that the parent projects a "current" profit of $87.5 million while the group as a whole projects only a "net" profit of $8.3 million? Could it be that another part of the group is losing money big time? Might that be Pippin Atmark multimedia terminal?

Why did Bandai cancel its merger with Sega? Could it be that they decided that the sales of Tamagotchi toys would be enough to sustain the company through this year without risking a merger?

Could it be the reason that the stock hasn't gone up is because long term investors are worried about Bandai's future should the Tamagotchi fad fades?

(definitely not a lawyer, just an investor who likes to preserve his principle!)
