In my case, I pay a $10 monthly data feed fee to Interactive Brokers if I do not generate $30 commissions in a given month. At $1 per trade, that can sometimes be difficult. While I really don't care at all about the $10, I've made it a little game to try to avoid that fee, and it has helped me get better at day trading.

I obviously sold too early yesterday, and after seeing the range that option traded I'll hold off for more next time.

Like you, I will sell something on a spike. It's kind of fun picking up nickles in front of the train, especially if you're also riding the train at the same time.
