I remember that well. I also remember the argument how Elian would be better off in the US. Did you know the shoe is often on the other foot? Apparently, if a couple is married, one spouse is German and the other is American, and they have one or more children. They later divorce and the American parent gets custody. If the non-custodial parent takes the kids to Germany, the German courts almost always refuse to return the children because they are better off in Germany?
