Mindmeld,

That's good news. The goal should be to double fleet efficiency from ~22 mpg to ~45 mpg. That takes us from importing 60% to importing maybe 15% of our oil, and lowers worldwide consumption, just from the US actions, by about 12% (huge in a commodity market trading at exactly the supply demand balance). Of course if we adopt new technology it would be exported to other markets... increasing the global effect. Oil glut time.

There are plenty of different technologies to do that... including EV's that use 0 mpg's and really lower the "average" of the fleet per mile driven. I've got about a 10 mile commute to and from work. With a plug in hybrid, I would probably only use gasoline a couple of times a week, instead of every day.

It's really simple, and would be huge for our economy. All we need is leadership... can that be found with the Dems or Reps? I doubt it; the system is broken.

It's really a test of our democratic system as envisioned by the founding fathers. Can the people take back the government from the special interests? I think it will take a third party to do that.
