Joe-- As much as I agree with what you say, I think that you are leaving out one side of the story. Some of these disastrous policies arose out of real problems that will not just go away by themselves. I read a quote by Mary J. Blige where she says that people in the projects expect the government to do something for them. I think that that is a disaster. The pendulum has swung too far. But, let's not return to the days when Jim Crow laws, lynchings, and child abuse were not punished. Let's learn from the mistakes that have been made on either side of the pendulum swing. In that spirit, I want to add a few do not have the rights:

You do not have the right to violate the civil rights of others by excluding them from their ability to pursue opportunities.

You do not have the right to profit from the sale of defective and dangerous products.

You do not have the right to exploit employees.

You do not have the right to neglect housing when you are a landlord

You do not have the right to profit by destroying what is the common good such as clean air, water, and a vibrant natural surroundings.

You do not have the right to physically abuse those in your family.

You do not have the right to destroy the inherent dignity of others.

I'll give you yours if you will give me mine. Except one: What right do you have to send anyone anywhere just because they will not learn to speak a language? Deny them governmental support, fine; but deport them for no other reason than their refusal or inability to learn English? That seems a bit harsh...
