I repeat myself, Bill, getting into this personal attack stuff just serves to further erode our political culture. It's talk of winner and losers in a p**sing contest. Not a conversation about substantive disagreements.
Well, then, let's not further "erode" our political culture in this obscure piece of SI, itself an obscure site in cyberspace.
Fact is, a minuscule number of people are aware of the fight between Hitchens and Cole; heck, dollars to doughnuts that 99.999% of the populace doesn't have the slightest idea they exist.
I suspect you don't want to discuss it because Cole doesn't fare too well in the fight, as properly noted by Sullivan and the folks he cites. Cole, you'll recall, posted in a most unhinged way about Hitchens. Sullivan and his sources note that the things Cole denies now, are things he said before in different venues.
Hitchens drinks, but I haven't noticed that it affects his reasoning. Cole has his own mental problems. In my opinion, they most certainly show up in his writings.
It's boring, at the end of the day, but let's not pretend we have any discernible effect on political culture. |
