OK, Trip Report. Northern Nevada, lots of empty,I loved it. The small town of Ely first night, welcome respite in historic down-town casino, after a long days drive - The Nevada. First "fire proof" hotel built in town, built in the early 30's. Pictures of the old days abound and as if just for me(last of the big time players)a slot which takes pennies. Night 2- Elko, higher prices less good food, great down town walking. Night 3- Reno. The Glitz-The lights-Simply left me speachless. Yes,I'm a big time neon fan...stayed at the Eldorado - great rates, and it attaches to the Circus-Circus & Silver Legacy 3 square blocks of many floors of walking without ever going outside. A drive through Tahoe & back to Reno. The next nite had one of the very best meals of my life, Louie's Bausque Inn. Yes,Bev,If you would like to hear about the sweetbreads, I'll put it on the food thread. Night 4- Minden - great small town with smaller casino,(we stayed in travel lodge next door). The next day provided the best breakfast of the trip. The casino hosts an open air farmer's market. Two filled pastries, the richest most jucy grapes I've ever eaten the fruit here is great! Day 5- Ely again. Day 6- Wendover. Great drinks, great food, cheap rooms - $29.95 US. & the wife & I also won about $75 each! more later star treck is on. richard |
